Andrew Bird has compiled a digital copy of brilliance and named it "Armchair Apocrypha."I have a theory that a favorite song reflects where the listener is at in his/her life. I have no idea what "Scythian Empires" represents to me personally, so maybe the theory is bogus, but I do know when I listen to it I feel as though everything will be all right.Listen to this song when driving home at night.
just. It.
From A Perfect Circle to Ziggy Marley, my musical taste expands over broad horizons. I'm not really one for lengthy reviews, so just visit http://grooveshark.com and type in "Scythian Empires." That song is currently my favorite, trumping Diana Kralls soothing and smooth voice or Rage Against the Machines memorable riffs.
fits. Therefore, let me say that even through my taste for metal, hip-hop, and classical, there is no CD that comes as close to perfection as this one.
The tempo, lyrics, and overall sound are all chosen at a deeper level then merely personal choice.
He is categorized in the "Indie Rock" genre. Complicated but great. Easy to listen to.
Seems like the bulk of popular music today is generated by a "music selling machine" that bombards us daily with growling voices all trying to sound like Nickelback or performers [I use the word loosely here] who do the American Idol "yodel" trying to hit as many notes in 2 seconds as possible. Before that, Hootie and the Blowfish put out a "different" voice and they too went the way of the Dodo.Bird is different. This guy, Andrew Bird, is a musical genius.
He fuses superb violin, both with bow and with finger picking, with his voice and other instruments and, strange as it may sound, whistling to create music that stands apart. Perhaps that is where we should be looking for the next little while for really good music.Buy it. Be warned Nickelback imitators that just a few years ago another "different" voice was the rage.
Creed topped all of the charts and within 2 years were dead and gone.
The combination of whistling, guitar and violin is great. Heard his newest album, Noble Beast which was amazing and decided to see what else he had. This was definitely not a disappointment.
It has remained on constant circulation on my iPhone and will continue to do so.It's well worth it's regular price, so if you can snag it for the daily deal price even better. bought this album a few months back from amazon mp3 and have been enjoying it ever since.
He is great at invoking mood and I recommend listening to this with your eyes closed. Part of his artistry is in the production. Now, normally I don't like "overproduced" albums.
I read someone who wrote that Bird only uses two chords. He is a true artist. This is a brilliant album.
I read others also say that they feel that this is overproduced. Not every song holds up to the last statement but enough do that this is a must have. I'm wondering if that person listened to the album.
The orchestration and arrangements this man puts together and the nuance that it creates is absolutely mesmerizing not to mention his incredible skill writing lyrics.
